With May fast approaching, it’s time to pull out your favourite Oodie and rug up for the winter. But while the temperatures might be dropping, our social calendars continue to be jam-packed.

With the likes of Tasting Australia, Chardonnay May, and plenty of awesome festivals, May is bursting with fun events you can tag along to.

Whether you want to sip on a glass of red next to a fire pit, or party the night away to all your favourite hits, there’s an event to suit everyone’s vibe. We’ve put together a list of our top ten favourite events in Adelaide this May, so you don’t have to.

Chardonnay May | May 1 – 31

Throughout the entirety of May the Adelaide Hills will be celebrating Chardonnay with a number of cool events. Cellar doors will be highlighting their incredible Chardonnays with a range of tasting experiences, from paint and sip or canvas and chardonnay experiences, to five-course lunches, to walking tours of vineyards and more.

SA Medieval Fair | May 4 – 5

Hear ye! Hear ye! Loyal subjects from wide and far are invited back to this year’s SA Medieval Fair which is actually South Australia’s original Medieval Fair. Making a grand return this May, the SA Medieval Fair will be gracing Paracombe as fairgoers young and old prepare to debut their admirable finery, dine like kings, and celebrate all things medieval.

This year over a fantastic two days, nearly 100 stalls featuring both local and interstate Merchants, Artisans, Armourers and Artists will be set up. See handcrafted wares, Blacksmiths, Wood Carvers, Bowyers and other makers of fine crafts as they get ready to demonstrate the skills of their trades.

Tasting Australia | May 3 – 12

Australia’s esteemed culinary festival, Tasting Australia, is set to tantalise taste buds once again in 2024. This year’s program features an expansive lineup of over 150 events, introducing exciting innovations, including a revamped Town Square and unique Tasting Australia Airlines trips to the Eyre Peninsula and the Limestone Coast.

Some of this year’s program highlights including the dining galleries which is part restaurant part art showcase, then the Tasting Australia Airlines where you can fly direct to the heart of South Australia’s ancient Limestone Coast from either Adelaide or Melbourne for an overnight adventure or for day trips featuring fantastic produce, the Tasting Australia by Train: Melbourne – Adelaide, the MAKE sessions to add finesse to your cooking skills from well-known chefs and lastly Tasting Tables fro for a series of intimate tastings.

Raclette Igloo | May 10 – June 9

Adelaide is set to be transported to the French Alps with a new Raclette Igloo Experience. It’s bringing traditional French fun to the CBD with dishes oozing with melted cheese while surrounded by a cozy, winter mountain-style ambiance, from From 10th of May to 9th of June.

As the chill of May descends upon Adelaide, the Raclette Igloo Experience is perfectly timed to take over Festival Plaza. With cooler nights on the horizon, it presents an ideal opportunity for friends and families to gather in private igloos, indulging in the richness of Raclette cheese, accompanied by sips of mulled wine and the cozy warmth of fire pits with marshmallows.

Featuring 14 igloos, each named after renowned French ski resorts, the Raclette Igloo promises an exclusive and intimate affair.

Clare Valley Gourmet Week | May 17 – 26

The Clare Valley SCA Gourmet Week, Australia’s premier food and wine festival, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The festival, renowned for showcasing the best of Clare Valley’s culinary and viticultural offerings, has announced a program filled with over 85 events, honouring this significant milestone.

The festival’s 10-day program from 17th to 26th May is divided into three main parts: Festival Weekend, Breathe It In, and Land of the Long Lunch. Each segment offers a unique way to experience the festival, catering to those who wish to attend for a day, a weekend, or the entire week.

Coriole Music Festival | May 18 – 19

In the picturesque setting of the Fleurieu Peninsula, the Coriole Music Festival is set to enchant audiences once again with its 2024 program. Artistic Director Simon Cobcroft, a renowned soloist and orchestral musician, has crafted a lineup that promises to blend the new with the familiar, offering a rich tapestry of chamber music complemented by the region’s finest culinary delights.

Scheduled for the 18th and 19th of May 2024 at the Coriole Vineyards in McLaren Vale, the festival will feature three concerts showcasing an eclectic mix of composers. From the evocative works of Peter Sculthorpe to the stirring compositions of Ralph Vaughan-Williams and Sergei Prokofiev, the program is a celebration of musical diversity. A highlight is the world premiere of a piece by Australian composer Annie Hsieh, commissioned specifically for the festival.

Cabaret Fringe Festival | May 24 – June 2

Adelaide’s Cabaret Fringe Festival, following its successful 2023 season, returns for South Australia’s winter festival season.

With over 100 performances scheduled across 10 nights, the festival promises a diverse array of shows catering to audiences of all ages and budgets. From free pop-up street performances to open mic nights, the festival aims to engage both seasoned cabaret enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Missy Higgins | May 30 – June 1

Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins ill head around the country on her “The Second Act Tour” in 2024, marking the 20th anniversary of her acclaimed debut album, The Sound of White.

Higgins’s tour presents a unique two-act format, featuring new songs and early career favorites in an acoustic setting, followed by a performance of The Sound of White in its entirety with her full band. This marks her first theatre tour since 2018 and revisits venues from her initial rise to fame in 2004.

She’s also announced another Adelaide performance during the Adelaide Cabaret Festival at the Festival Theatre later in June as well.
