If you missed the NSW SES press conference earlier, WaterNSW announced the Warragamba Dam spilled this morning.

It followed heavy rainfall overnight, with its catchment receiving an average of 100mm of rain from midnight over 6 hours.

Its sub-catchment, close to the dam wall, received about 130mm while some areas received 200mm over 24 hours.

WaterNSW said this caused flash flooding in the catchment and into the dam, causing it to spill.

It’s currently spilling at a rate of about 200 gigalitres per day but this rate will continue to rise.

The dam spill will contribute to flood waters already in the system from the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley, it said.
