CENTACARE FNQ will celebrate Harmony Day with a festival of food, music, dance, and fun for everyone on Monday, 18 March, from 2 pm to 6 pm at Elevation Church in Manoora.
Centacare FNQ’s annual Harmony Day celebration will be its biggest yet, with 250 people confirmed to attend Monday’s gathering to embrace the vibrance of Cairns’ culturally diverse community.
Harmony events begin at 2 pm with a traditional Welcome to Country for the city’s newest arrivals.
From January to May 2024, Centacare FNQ will welcome 120 humanitarian migrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo, most of whom have waited between 10 and 15 years for resettlement.
According to Centacare FNQ’s Multicultural Services Manager, Andrea Obeyesekere, this year’s Harmony Week theme, ‘Everyone Belongs’, is a beautiful call to action for Cairns as a diverse community to share humanity and foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity.
“Harmony Day 2024 is shaping up to be one of our most memorable, with the program of events weaving a rich tapestry of cultures through dance performances, cultural workshops, and a delightful array of global cuisine,” Ms Obeyesekere said.
Centacare FNQ’s long-term Harmony Day partners represented at Monday’s event include Manoora Neighbourhood Centre and The Salvation Army (which will run a barbecue), along with Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma (QPASTT), Cairns West State School, Cairns Safer Streets, Cairns Arakanese Association, Cairns Bhutanese Association, Cairns African Association, and Cairns Congolese Association.
All are welcome to participate in Centacare FNQ’s Harmony Day celebrations on Monday, 18 March 2024, from 2 pm to 6 pm at Elevation Church, 83 Pease Street, Manoora.
Since 1999, more than 80,000 Harmony events have been hosted across Australia in childcare centres, schools, community groups, churches, businesses, and federal, state, and local government agencies.
