MLA’s flagship event heading to Perth this October – Beef Central

Meat & Livestock Australia’s flagship event, MLA Updates 2024, is open for registrations.

Held on Thursday 10 October 2024 at the Claremont Showgrounds, MLA Updates will feature presentations, displays and demonstrations bringing producers – and everyone along the red meat supply chain – up to speed on MLA’s investments in research, development and marketing.

The Updates event will be separated from the AGM this year, which will be held in Tamworth in November.

This year’s theme is ‘Creating value across the supply chain’, with the event strongly focused on how MLA is driving profitability and productivity within that theme.

MLA Updates will feature presentations from some of WA’s most prominent meat and livestock enterprises. Keynote speaker Wayne Crofts, chief executive officer of Craig Mostyn Group. Mr Crofts will share insights from one of Australia’s leading agribusinesses, which operates at multiple sites across the country and sells its brands in numerous overseas markets. He will speak from first-hand experience about a business that engages with every stage of the supply chain, from paddock to plate.

In a panel session, Ben Dwyer (Harvest Road), Belinda Lay (Coolindown Farms), Graeme Howie (Dorper Lamb Pty Ltd) and Annabelle Coppin (Outback Beef) will tell their stories and insights about the opportunities for adding value along the supply chain, speaking about the application of research and marketing within their own business.

The Updates audience will also have the opportunity to hear from new MLA managing director Michael Crowley about practical activities that are adding value to the Australian red meat and livestock industry. There will also be updates from MLA on domestic and international marketing, Meat Standards Australia, and demonstrations from MLA’s corporate chef and an MSA specialist butcher.

There will be a range of showcases and practical livestock demonstrations from MLA’s Research, Development & Adoption, Marketing & Insights, and Integrity Systems Company teams.

Visitors will also have the chance to chat directly with specific areas of investment within MLA and have their questions answered. There will be a variety of hubs and displays attendees can visit and liaise with:

  • MLA services
  • Integrity Systems
  • Sustainability
  • Live export
  • On-farm technologies.

Members of the Red Meat Advisory Council will also be present at the event, kicking the day off with a forum at 9am. The RMAC Forum will cover the role of peak industry bodies, key industry issues and policy and the industry’s strategic framework, Red Meat 2030.

MLA Updates will conclude with a sundowner event, where producers can catch up with the team over a beverage and red meat canapés. Registrations for the event commence at 8am for a 9am start for the RMAC Forum, followed by the MLA Updates from 10.15am and will be entirely located at the Claremont Showgrounds, 1 Graylands Rd, Claremont WA.
