Comparing Gina Rinehart’s Experiences on Two Referendum Nights

Supporters of Indigenous Voice to Parliament Celebrate Referendum Results

For months, No campaigners framed supporters of an Indigenous Voice to parliament as out of touch elites imposing their thought bubbles on middle Australia. However, the narrative couldn’t have been further from the truth at the recent referendum events.

As the results flooded in, supporters of the No case gathered at Brisbane’s Hyatt Regency for a tightly stage-managed affair. The gathered media were kept away from the drinks and canapes on offer, on a separate level from where the campaign and its guests were gathered.

We tried to ask leading No figure Nyunggai Warren Mundine why journalists couldn’t get a look in on all the fun (as we always can for a normal election) but he never returned our calls.

Gina Rinehart Makes Surprise Appearance at No Campaign Victory Party

Surprisingly, media outlets failed to notice a cameo from Australia’s richest person, Gina Rinehart, at the No campaign’s victory party. Rinehart showed up while journalists were at a press conference held by leading No campaigners Jacinta Nampijinpa Price and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, over an hour after the result was known.

This is not the first time Rinehart has made an appearance in political circles. She previously attended a press conference after Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s maiden speech, expressing her support for the new senator.

Meanwhile, the Yes campaign’s wake was held at the Wests Ashfield Leagues Club, a less glamorous location compared to the No campaign’s event.

Supporters of Indigenous Voice Celebrate Referendum Results

The referendum results were cause for celebration among supporters of the Indigenous Voice to Parliament. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney addressed the media, indicating the direction the Voice is headed.

Notably, Dean Parkin, director of Yes23, was accompanied by Mark Textor, co-founder of CT Group, a polling firm known for its association with conservative victories. This collaboration raises questions about the future relationship between CT Group and the Liberal Party.

The Everest Race Draws Attention to Voice to Parliament

Racing NSW boss Peter “Showbags” V’landys previously suggested that the success of a horse named Yes Yes Yes in the Everest race in 2019 would be a good omen for the Voice to parliament. Despite not being accurate, the race drew attention to the cause and attracted a diverse crowd of attendees.

Notable figures spotted at the event included entrepreneur Gerry Harvey, racing head John Singleton, former governor-general Peter Cosgrove, former health minister Brad Hazzard, and former deputy premier Paul Toole. The rivalry between the Everest and the Melbourne Cup has been beneficial for racing authorities in both states.

Annastacia Palaszczuk Enjoys Night at The Whitlams Concert

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk attended a concert by The Whitlams the night before the referendum. She took the band’s playful jabs at Brisbane in good humor and stayed until the end of the concert.

Overall, the referendum and its associated events have sparked discussions and brought attention to important issues surrounding Indigenous representation in parliament.
