Local award-winning writers the focus of Stella Day Out Hobart program

Stella announces a strong Tasmanian focus for its first Stella Day Out in Hobart, including award-winning authors Amanda Lohrey and Heather Rose.

Stella is committed to breaking down barriers to literary events and presents Stella Day Out, a one-day celebration of the most original, excellent and engaging work by Australian women and non-binary authors.

Following the inspiring inaugural event in Melbourne in November 2023, Stella Day Out, a free one-day festival of great writing and great ideas comes to Hobart on Friday, 16 February 2024.

The first edition of Stella Day Out for 2024 will be held at The Salon at The Hedberg, University of Tasmania with acclaimed Tasmanian writers Amanda Lohrey and Heather Rose and Lord Mayor of Hobart, Councillor Anna Reynolds in-person onstage.

Amanda Lohrey will discuss hope and trust in literature with poet and editor Michelle Cahill. Lohrey’s 2020 novel The Labyrinth won the Miles Franklin award, Voss award and Prime Minister’s Literary Award. Her latest novel, The Conversion, was published in October 2023.

Heather Rose will reflect on her Stella Prize winning novel The Museum of Modern Love (2017) and her latest book, the memoir Nothing Bad Ever Happens Here in conversation with local author Danielle Wood.

Stella Ambassador, Lord Mayor Councillor Anna Reynolds, will celebrate Hobart’s recent designation as a UNESCO City of Literature.

“We are incredibly excited to bring this free event to Hobart and help celebrate and amplify the work of Tasmanian authors. We are also thrilled to have Lord Mayor Councillor Anna Reynolds join Stella as an Ambassador. We hope this is the first of many Stella events in the recently designated City of Literature.”
