Thousands attend International Women’s Day events across Tasmania

Tasmanians have come out in their thousands to celebrate International Women’s Day across the state, with a number of breakfasts and lunches being hosted to mark the global day of recognition.

In Hobart, approximately 400 people attended a fundraising breakfast at the Crowne Plaza for the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation.

Organisers say nearly $40,000 was raised at this morning’s breakfast, which saw Tasmania JackJumpers CEO speak about her leadership journey in a thought-provoking interview with Jane Longhurst.

“Overall, it was a very pleasing result,” Foundation Development Officer Brodie West said.

The Hive Collective hosted their inaugural International Women’s Day Conference at the Moonah Arts Centre, in collaboration with St. Luke’s Health.

The event aimed to provide women with a “unique opportunity to be inspired, to learn, grow, and make a positive impact”.

“Through connecting, we aim to spark meaningful relationships and future collaboration,” The Hive Collective co-founder Annie Gatenby said.

Meanwhile, in Launceston a 24km International Women’s Day bike ride took place in the city, alongside a variety of cultural workshops held at the QVMAG Art Gallery.
