A stacked lineup of events for Youth Week 2024 in Newcastle

Newcastle’s vibrant youth scene is set to take centre stage once again as the city gears up to celebrate Youth Week 2024.

From the 11th until the 21st of April, the City of Newcastle will be abuzz with activities tailor-made for teenagers and young adults, all aimed at showcasing their talents and contributions to the community. Spearheaded by young locals and supported by various community organizations, Youth Week promises a dynamic and diverse program that reflects the city’s youthful energy.

One of the most anticipated events is the takeover of Newcastle Museum, where 13 to 17-year-olds will enjoy a night of fun-filled activities, including live music, DJ sets, collaborative music workshops, open-mic opportunities, and mystery tours with the curator – all without parental supervision.

There’s also an all-ages live music night organized by Headspace, an inclusive art projection, food, and entertainment evening presented by Wesley Mission and young LGBTQIA+ artists, and a chance to unleash artistic talents at the Create Your Place event in Museum Park, where graffiti art and hip hop workshops will be led by Up & Up.

Young guns seeking an adrenaline rush can lace up their skates for a full day of ice skating, organized by the Hunter Multicultural Centre and the HMC youth group, and young people from multicultural backgrounds will participate in a storytelling self-portrait project coordinated by And Then Photo Agency.

Their images will be showcased on digital screens at Wallsend Library throughout the week, offering a glimpse into their diverse experiences and perspectives.

Youth Week 2024 is happening from the 11th of April until the 21st of April. For more info on events visit newcastle.nsw.gov.au.
