Lake Macquarie unveils ambitious Events and Festivals Strategic Action Plan

Lake Macquarie Council has unveiled an ambitious Events and Festivals Strategic Action Plan that focuses on attracting more visitors, boosting the night-time economy, and championing sustainability.

At the heart of the plan lies a commitment to delivering a minimum of 20 signature events annually, backed by a significant investment exceeding $600,000 per year across all event offerings.

By capitalizing on venues such as Cedar Mill, Hunter Sports Centre, Trinity Resort, and Black Rock Motor Park, the city aims to draw in new and exciting experiences that will appeal to a broad audience.

“Our ever-expanding annual calendar of events, combined with our support for numerous community, sporting and entertainment gatherings, has grown Lake Mac’s reputation as a hub for memorable experiences and adventures,” Lake Macquarie Mayor, Kay Fraser said.

“This plan outlines how we can expand on our successful 2022-2023 events program, which delivered about $28 million in economic benefits with 345,000 people attending 406 key events.”

The plan also outlines strategies to minimize waste and promote sustainability within the events sector to reduce the environmental footprint while still delivering memorable experiences for attendees.

Lake Macquarie Councillors approved the draft plan to go out for public exhibition at tonight’s Ordinary Council meeting. The plan is its invitation for community feedback during a 28-day public exhibition period. Visit lakemac.com.au to find out more.
