Conclusion of festive celebrations at the Parish of Saint Dimitrios in Queanbeyan

On Sunday, October 30, the festive events in honor of Saint Dimitrios the Myrrh-flower were completed in the celebrating Greek Orthodox Parish of Saint Dimitrios of the city of Queanbeyan, near Canberra, while the expatriates also celebrated the national anniversary of October 28, 1940.

With the blessings of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis visited the city and officiated at the Holy Church of Saint Dimitrios, joined also by the proistamenos of the church, Fr. Iakovos Syriotis, the previous proistamenos, who has now retired, Fr. Konstantinos Kostakos, the proistamenos of the Holy Church of Saint George, Shepparton, Father Plato Derlis and Deacon Meliton Haridemos.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Bartholomew spoke to the congregation about the importance of the Anniversary of “OXI” for the Greeks, about the value for Christians, of saying “no” to sin, to passions, to selfishness, to hatred and jealousy, in everything that takes them away from Christ.

Bishop Bartholomew also conveyed to the expatriates of Queanbeyan the love and blessings of their Shepherd, Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

Afterwards, a festival followed with Greek dancing and food, in the hall adjacent to the church.
