Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill says the government “can’t do everything”.
Townsville residents are dealing with the aftermath of a cyclone and other extreme weather events which caused widespread destruction.
Ms Hill told Sky News host Paul Murray that the local government “asked the community” to help “look after itself”.
“Every individual has a responsibility to do that.
“The power goes out, and you see it could go out for two days, it could go out for two weeks.”
