World AIDS Day 2023: Let Communities Lead

On December 1st, the World Health Organization (WHO) will join communities and partners worldwide to commemorate World AIDS Day 2023. This year’s theme is “Let communities lead,” highlighting the crucial role of communities in the fight against HIV.

Communities living with and affected by HIV, including networks of key populations and youth leaders, have played a vital role in advancing the HIV response. They provide essential prevention, testing, and treatment support services, foster trust, generate innovative solutions, promote health, monitor policy implementation, and hold providers accountable.

By empowering communities, we can put an end to AIDS. This year’s theme, “Let communities lead,” not only celebrates their achievements but also calls for action to enable and support their leadership roles.

On World AIDS Day 2023, WHO acknowledges and appreciates the invaluable contributions of communities in leading the response to HIV.
