Back Me

2 Rag Queen (Bet Now: $6.50) is an early pick for the JJ Atkins so I am keen to see how she resumes. She looked a Golden Slipper horse when she started her career but David Payne put her on ice to focus on Brisbane. Trialled super at Rosehill to my eye and while 1200m is on the short side, she’ll be very strong late and has class.

Danger

1 Pisces (Bet Now: $2.80) has done little wrong in a four start career for James Cummings. Not sure he beat much at Newcastle last time but the manner in which he put them away was impressive, albeit aided by a 12/10 from Zac. He is up in the relative weights, but he is a winner, hard fit and in form.

Long Shot

5 Format (Bet Now: $13.00) is a son of Frankel on debut for GaiBott. This guy has had extensive trial work, dating back to December. He’s had two trials this time in for the debut and has been solid each time, the latest over 1050m when placing. Stable have been #1 when it comes to juveniles this season so I think he has to be respected.

Race 2. (11:35) Midway (Bm72) 1400m

Back Me

1 Navy Blood (Bet Now: $3.10) is a nice three year old for Team Freedman that should take beating. He resumed with a bang when winning the Midway two weeks ago at Newcastle, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display and return. Has good upside and improvement to come and with that in mind, will take beating.

Danger

10 Sumo Star (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Gary Portelli trained four year old that is racing really well at the moment. He comes through the Midway from a fortnight back where he seemingly got every chance in transit and tried his guts out but found one better, a nice one, in Navy Blood. Consistent, around the mark and expecting much similar here.

Long Shot

5 Resistible (Bet Now: $5.50) can be a big improver for Michael Freedman. He hasn’t raced since All Aged Day here when struggling on the bottomless, finishing down the track in the Midway. Has been given a mini freshen up and his tick over trial was a good piece of work. One of the hardest to beat.

Race 3. (12:10) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1200m

Back Me

3 Orient’s Secret (Bet Now: $6.50) rates highly fro Matty Dunn, who is the King when it comes to Highway races. He resumed at the midweeks at Ipswich in a strong Class 3 when second to Pizarro, who is Stakes performed and loaded with talent, so the form does read very well for a Highway and with upside, appeals.

Danger

1 Tanglewood (Bet Now: $4.80) has an engine under the hood but upstairs, he has a few loose screws. He won the Highway at Newcastle a fortnight back, aided by a peach from Josh Parr, who had the suck run in behind before angling clear and finished best to win and win well. He’s got room for improvement and has to be respected IMO.

Long Shot

16 Big Opinion (Bet Now: $9.50) has done little wrong this time in for Matty Dale and is one of the key chances. He put together a couple of nice wins on the bounce to start the prep before going to Wagga when just off the speed and presented to win under Heywood but couldn’t quite finish the job when a narrow second. That was at 1400m so back to 1200m I like. Just needs luck from the draw.

Race 4. (12:45) Pf Civil (Bm78) 2400m

Back Me

5 Fay’s Angels (Bet Now: $9.50) is one of the more honest gallopers racing in Sydney at present and off her last start effort at Newcastle, I think she’ll take beating here. She ran in the 2200m race and made her run in the quicksand. Despite that, she loomed and looked the winner, but couldn’t quite see it through. 2400m should be fine and is the each way play for me.

Danger

1 Desperado (Bet Now: $7.00) is a model of consistency for Ciaron Maher. He won impressively three back at Caulfield before a couple of runner up efforts on the bounce, firstly at Mornington behind the current Caulfield Cup favourite, Sea What I See, before going to Newcastle when a game second to Speycaster. 2400m no issue and is in the right camp.

Long Shot

7 Awesome Wonder (Bet Now: $4.60) comes here with relatively fresh legs for John O’Shea, having not raced since Anzac Day over 2400m when a narrow second to Rattle And Hum, sitting off the speed and surged late but just missed out on the win. Tick over trial was good, 2400m no issue…definite winning chance.

Race 5. (13:20) St George Leagues Club (Bm78) 1400m

Back Me

12 Anagain (Bet Now: $6.50) finds it hard to win but I am convinced she is talented. She ran two weeks back at Newcastle over 1200m where she was nearer the inside but just took a little bit too long to wind into her work but was solid late behind impressive winner Sir Ravanelli. Up to 1400m and back to Mares grade, her best is good enough.

Danger

4 Konasana (Bet Now: $3.30) is much better suited at this level I feel for Chris Waller. She comes through the Hawkesbury Guineas where she didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight but at the same time, the race shape was totally against her so be forgiving of the down the track effort behind Schwarz. Better suited here, hard to beat.

Long Shot

5 French Endeavour (Bet Now: $9.00) has been up a while but she has the quality. Stakes performer who also comes through the Hawkesbury Guineas and I thought her effort and finale against the race shape was quite good in defeat behind Schwarz. Tricky draw to overcome but she has the quality to overcome it.

Race 6. (13:55) Wilson Asset Management (Bm72) 1800m

Back Me

10 Bestower (Bet Now: $7.00) is a filly I have time for and I think she could be a sleeper for the Oaks. Can make a case to say she should have won last Wednesday on the Kenso but got held up at times while the eventual winner had all the momentum and stole a break, but this girl finished off with real purpose. She has the engine under the hood to measure up, win this and then head to the Oaks.

Danger

5 Ravello (Bet Now: $16.00) is a three year old for John O’Shea I have always had time for so keen to see how he goes here. His last run was the Frank Packer where like most for the meeting, he really struggled to pick his feet up in the conditions behind Kintyre in a race where the form out of it has been very strong. Tick over trial was pretty good and he does have a touch of quality.

Long Shot

11 Callistemon (Bet Now: $51.00) is one I can entertain for exotics. She ran at Newcastle two weeks back when just off the speed throughout and tried hard but just couldn’t quite pick up in the conditions behind Scarlet Oak. The run prior in the Midway was solid at Hawkesbury and she does give the indication of being fine at 1800m.

Race 7. (14:30) Taylor Construction (Bm78) 1000m

Back Me

11 Passeggiata (Bet Now: $6.00) is a speed demon and looks ideally suited to the 1000m. You can make a case to say with a positive steer, she wins at Newcastle first up but for some reason, she was restrained, looking for cover, and ended up wide no cover throughout on a day where up/in was dynamite. Let a fast horse be fast please.

Danger

14 The Black Cloud (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Joe Pride trained filly that resumes. This girl is first up after a three run Summer prep to start her career, winning the opening two in impressive fashion before a gutsy second over 1200m here and was spelled. Given a good break, two trials under the belt for the return and I think will be strong at the end of 1000m. Market will tell you if she’s ready.

Long Shot

10 Our Bellagio Miss (Bet Now: $14.00) will likely spot them a start but she should be strong at the end. She ran behind Kote at Newcastle two weeks back where she got back to near last in the run and did make up good ground without threatening on a day where up/in was dynamite. She can settle closer if need be and has run well at Randwick previously.

Race 8. (15:05) Fujitsu Airstage (Bm94) 1600m

Back Me

5 Iknowastar (Bet Now: $3.10) will land on the bunny and take running down. He comes through The Coast at Newcastle where he attempted to lead throughout at a decent clip and credit to him, he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow third to Magnaspin. If he can find the front and harness his energy, he’ll take beating.

Danger

16 Miracle Spin (Bet Now: $14.00) should appreciate getting to 1600m for Matty Smith and is hard to beat I’d suggest. He was off a freshen up when racing over 1400m at Hawkesbury a few weeks ago and while he was never a threat, he found the line well enough in a pleasing return. Gets a much better set up here and this isn’t a deep race overall.

Long Shot

4 Flying Crazy (Bet Now: $19.00) hasn’t set the world on fire in some time but his best is more than good enough. He comes through the race at Rosehill won by Waterford where he got back to last and made up some ground against the pattern in a good effort. If he can use the inside gate and settle closer, he’s dangerous.

Race 9. (15:45) Pf Civil Equipment (Bm88) 2000m

Back Me

5 Pesto (Bet Now: $9.00) looks to be in for a really good prep for Team Hawkes. He resumed a few weeks back over 1500m at Rosehill in what was a very strong race and while he was held, he ran really well over an unsuitable trip when fourth to Waterford. Fitter and up in trip, good upside to come, he rates highly.

Danger

12 Kureder (Bet Now: $8.50) looks ready to win for Chris Waller. He ran three weeks ago at Hawkesbury where he got back off the speed and took a little while to wind into his work but was good late in the piece when third to For Victory. Like him up to 2000m, bigger track and this isn’t a deep race. One of the hardest to beat.

Long Shot

11 Toesonthenose (Bet Now: $16.00) is capable of running a forward race for John Sargent. Tough effort at Canterbury two back after doing work in the run. He then wen to Hawkesbury a few weeks back and was solid enough in defeat but seemingly had his chance behind impressive winner For Victory. Firmer deck here, he can run an improved race.

Race 10. (16:25) Supporterhub (Bm78) 1400m

Imagine what you could be buying instead.

Back Me

18 Skywolf (Bet Now: $21.00) looks ready to win for Team Hawkes. He ran at Newcastle two weeks ago over 1200m, back from 1300m, and while he was never really a winning threat, I thought he really warmed to the task nicely late in the piece behind Sir Ravanelli. He’ll love 1400m on firmer footing and if he can settle closer, he’ll take a power of beating.

Danger

4 Unanimous (Bet Now: $21.00) has been a trial star this prep for mine and can although is better suited over further, I think he’s humming and can run a big race fresh. His latest trial was last week here over 1200m. He was back off the speed but when Gibbons gave him a squeeze, the change up speed was instant and moved with real purpose. I say he’ll run a beauty and is worth an each way ticket.

Long Shot

11 Kiss Sum (Bet Now: $61.00) is a very interesting runner. Tracey Bartley trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since March 9 when down the track over 1800m at the Gold Coast behind Daytona Bay, who was flying at the time. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and his recent trial work has been more than encouraging.
