BEST BET

RACE 7 No. 1 DESERT DREAMER

DESERT DREAMER made full use of the rails draw in last start victory over Throw At Da Stumps. Draws the paint again and Jarrod Todd knows how to take full advantage of this scenario. Boots through and dictates, giving him every possible chance. Munster the danger late.

Tips: Desert Dreamer* (1), Munster (2), Versetto (4).

VALUE BET

RACE 10 (DARWIN CUP) No. 4 WRITE YOUR NAME

Alice Springs Cup winner WRITE YOUR NAME gets a 6.5kg turnaround on Noir De Rue from his 4¼-length third in the Chief Minister’s Cup over the mile. With that advantage and the extra trip, he can turn the tables. Settles midfield from the good draw and looks value. NOIR DE RUE will run well. He’s giving some handy horses a decent weight advantage but again draws well and won’t have to spend any petrol in the run. In a race with limited speed engaged, WOLFBURN will find the front early. It’s then all about what pressure He’s The Ultimate and possibly Sanblas and Grandslam wish to apply. SANBLAS maps for an economical run and must be respected.

Tips: Write Your Name (4), Wolfburn (9), Noir De Rue (1), Sanblas (6).

OTHER RACES

RACE 1

Prepared to forgive THROW AT DA STUMPS for his last start failure where commenced awkwardly and has to be used up early to find the front. Previous form reads well for this.

Tips: Throw At Da Stumps (4), Canton Kid (5), I’m A Legend (2).

RACE 2

YE HELLA doesn’t win out of turn but hard to ignore pleasing first-up run when hitting the line well off a wide run in transit. This looks an easier assignment and drawing inside a huge advantage.

Tips: Ye Hella (4), Patriotic King (2), Whitten (12).

RACE 3

The penny has dropped with the Gary Clarke-trained HARD TO EXCEL having won three in a row. He’s showing great early speed from the gates and if able to cross Noble War early is clearly the one to run down.

Tips: Hard To Excel (8), Noble War (5), Soul Spirit (9).

Expert Witness looks hard to beat in Race 4. Picture: Caroline Camilleri

RACE 4

EXPERT WITNESS bypassed the Palmerston Sprint with a foot issue but the stable is confident he’s right and if that’s the case he’s the one to beat. The five-year-old has ample acceleration to find the front. Neiwand and possibly Doc O’Connor will keep Expert Witness honest early but I expect his class to tell late.

Tips: Expert Witness (1), Niewand (7), Rising Sphere (9).

RACE 5

EQUAL BALANCE is racing well for Kym Healy but just keeps finding one or two better this carnival. He deserves to win one. Any pressure up front will further enhance his chances.

Tips: Equal Balance (5), Zourisky (9), Supremo (3).

RACE 6

INFLUENTIAL JACK gets his chance out to the mile and to get the right run midfield. Hettinger, Siakam and Tubthumper all likely to dictate from the front so backing the speed will be genuine and he can swoop in the shadows of the post.

Tips: Influential Jack (4), Hettinger (7), Siakam (2).

RACE 8

AFTERNOON TEA was a good winner of the Rosebowl sitting outside the speed. This assignment looks well within her grasp given a lot of these not in career best form. Super Famous next best.

Tips: Afternoon Tea (8), Super Famous (6), Bartolini (3).

RACE 9

I was hoping GRINZINGER BISHOP might get a run in the Cup but he ends up second emergency. Solid effort in the Derby when closed late to just miss Anphina reads well for this. Ironedge hasn’t been far away of late and must be respected.

Tips: Grinzinger Bishop (4), Ironedge (2), Venting (6).
