BEST BETS

Caulfield R8 No.4 Asfoora

Asfoora (4) returns here with brilliant fresh stats (4:3-0-1) and an unblemished record over the Caulfield 1100m (3 from 3). She was utterly dominant winning the G2 Schillachi over this route in the spring, putting 3L on G1 winner Uncommon James. She’ll have no issues landing in the first four from barrier six and anything north of $2 seems a great bet.

Randwick R10 No.3 Tintookie

Tintookie (3) is going super this preparation and brings the strong formline behind Our Kobison. Doesn’t clash with that potential star here and she’s got a good jockey on board. On a day where there doesn’t look to be any clear cut winners, she looks the best of them.

Doomben R6 No.2 John Rambo

A good class 3 field but Tony Gollan holds the whip hand. John Rambo (2) is not the easiest of conveyances but Ryan Maloney has been on him at all three of his wins. He will settle him with cover off the speed to produce late and has a better turn of foot than these.

Caulfield R10 No.3 Lazzago

Lazzago (3) has been a bit of a flop since winning 2 of her first 3 starts – including a G2 win over Facile and Blanc De Blanc – but there is ability there and she’s worth keeping safe at huge odds first-up. Her trials have been quiet and in a race where the tempo looks pretty frantic, the wide draw (room to wind up) might not be a bad thing.

Randwick R2 No.11 Mrs Maree

I think Clarry Conners has a handy filly in the stable with Mrs Maree (11). She debuted in the race behind Rag Queen where they went along at a red hot tempo and she wasn’t able to go with them late after settling on speed. I’d be surprised if they go anywhere near as fast here, she’s got in form jockey Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle and has trialled up super.

Doomben R4 No.10 Sigourney

She is drawn poorly again but Sigourney (10) came from a wide gate and ran on to just miss the placings last start. The Reliable Man mare has done little wrong since joining Kevin Kemp, this extra distance suits and no one is riding better than Cejay Graham.
