The school holidays are here! If you’ve got nothing planned, whether due to lack of time or creativity, there are still plenty of options for you to get away with the family.

You can save money by booking a holiday package if that’s what you’re after. Or, you can focus solely on the flights and getting the best possible deal that you can. Plenty of travel sites are offering deals at the moment, and there will be something that suits everyone.

Domestic travel

If you’re thinking of staying local, there are plenty of ways to do so affordably. You can flit between our major cities for roughly $100 each way when booking through Flight Centre. You can fly to Melbourne for $92, and Brisbane for $109. While prices might vary daily, it’ll be easy to secure a deal as soon as you’re ready to book.

Flight Centre also has some great packages available for domestic travelers. A simple Gold Coast trip will only set you back $1399 per family (two adults and two children), with accommodation at Sea World included for four nights.

If you’re happy to venture out further, you can also book a trip to Norfolk Island. With accommodation at Channers on Norfolk and car hire included, you can spend time exploring this tiny, hidden corner of the world for just $800 per person.

Byron Bay is another popular destination as the cold weather sets in, offering warmer temperatures, beautiful beaches and a relaxed atmosphere. Luxury Escapes is offering up to 36 per cent off a two-night stay at Ingenia Holidays, with prices starting at $299 for two nights.

You could also opt for a cruise, with Luxury Escapes knocking 19 per cent off their 10-night Australia Celebrity Edge Wine Region Cruise. Jump on board from $1799 per person, but maybe leave the kids at home for this one.

International travel

If you’re planning to travel internationally, now is a good time to book (especially if you are going away for the school holiday period!). Flight Centre is offering deals on return flights to several great places. You can fly return to Auckland for $493, to Bali for $594, or to Vanuatu for $616.

They’re also offering great trip deals. You can visit Rarotonga for seven nights from $1250 per person with accommodation sorted at the Sunset Resort. Or, head as far as Hawaii for seven nights, beginning at $3800 per person with flights included.

One of their best deals is a trip to Phuket from $640 per person for a total of eight nights (although flights aren’t included in that price). This includes a stay at the five-star Crest Resort, daily breakfast, a private island tour, and a shuttle service available each day.

You can also book a stay in Fiji for $750 per person across seven nights. With accommodation at the Shangri-La Yanuca Island, daily breakfast, return airport transfers, and bonus credit to spend at the resort, you’ll have everything you need for an ultra-relaxing stay.
