Calling all wine enthusiasts! Invention Vineyards is making waves in the Texas wine business by expanding the Hill Country wine trail to the south of Fredericksburg. This exciting venture not only showcases the Heath Family Brands, but also introduces classic-style wines to the region.

A Taste of Invention

In mid-September, Invention Vineyards opened its doors to a brand new tasting room and production facilities. Located at the former site of Slate Mill Wine Collective, this bright and airy space sets the stage for an unforgettable wine tasting experience.

Owned by Brian and Jennifer Heath, who also operate Grape Creek Vineyards in Fredericksburg, Jenblossom Cellars, and Heath Sparkling Wines, Invention Vineyards is their latest endeavor. Richard Foster, the manager of the tasting room, explains that Invention focuses on varietals rather than blends, sourcing grapes from the Texas High Plains and local producers.

Despite the challenges posed by this summer’s intense heat, Invention Vineyards remains committed to producing exceptional wines. Foster notes that yields across the state have been affected, but the winery continues to strive for excellence.

A Glimpse into the Future

Looking ahead, Invention Vineyards plans to produce estate-grown wines from the 35 acres of vines surrounding the tasting room. With 17 acres already replanted, featuring seven different grape varieties, visitors can anticipate an exciting range of wines in the coming years.

When it comes to enjoying a glass of wine, Invention Vineyards offers a delightful selection. From the refreshing Viognier to the full-bodied Tempranillo, there is something for every palate. For a truly special experience, don’t miss out on P2, a deep red blend of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot grapes.

Located just 5 miles south of downtown Fredericksburg on State Highway 16, Invention Vineyards is steeped in history. The three limestone buildings near the entrance were once part of Carl Guenther’s mill in 1851 before he relocated to San Antonio to establish Pioneer Flour Mills. The tasting room welcomes guests daily from 11am to 5:30pm, offering exclusive wines only available at the winery or at tasting rooms in Fredericksburg and Georgetown.
