Please note that this event is alcohol-free, and the barbecues near the play space will not be operational. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead.

A Celebration of Community

The Picnic in the Park event is a testament to the City of Ballarat’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of community. According to City of Ballarat Deputy Mayor, Cr Peter Eddy, the event has gained significant momentum over the past two years, with thousands of people coming together to celebrate.

“Picnic in the Park is a family-friendly event held in one of our city’s most beautiful locations, Victoria Park. It offers a day of relaxation and enjoyment for everyone,” says Cr Eddy. “We received overwhelmingly positive feedback after the first two years, so we encourage families to join us and make it a memorable day.”

With live music, lawn games, food trucks, and market stalls, there will be something to entertain everyone. While acknowledging the differing views surrounding Australia Day being on January 26, Cr Eddy emphasizes the importance of respecting others’ opinions and embracing the diversity that makes Australia a great country to live in.

Community Awards and Citizenship Ceremony

Prior to the Picnic in the Park event, the City of Ballarat will host a special citizenship ceremony on Australia Day morning. Over 60 community members from 20 different countries will become new Australian citizens, representing the multicultural fabric of Ballarat.

On the evening of January 25, the City of Ballarat will also honor outstanding achievers from the past year with the Australia Day Community Awards 2024. These awards celebrate individuals and community activities that have made a significant positive impact on the city.

Provided by the Australia Day Committee (Victoria) and administered by Local Government Authorities throughout Australia, these awards recognize the contributions of Ballarat citizens across three categories: Ballarat Citizen of the Year, Ballarat Young Citizen of the Year, and Community Activity of the Year.
