He expressed his gratitude for the event, saying, “You just don’t believe at this age it’s possible (to be diagnosed with cancer). You hear a lot of people say ‘my granda has got it’ or ‘my grandma has got it,’ but I don’t know anyone outside this community I can talk to about it so coming here helps.”
James Saunders from Carlisle also shared his story of battling chronic myeloid leukemia since the age of 19. Now 24, James underwent a stem cell transplant, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy at the Freeman Hospital. Despite continuing oral chemotherapy, he is currently free from leukemia and works in a shop. James emphasized the importance of connecting with others who are going through similar experiences, stating, “People are in the same boat as you. You can talk about it and it can help you get through it.”
