Enjoy Free Fireworks Displays on the Sunshine Coast this New Year’s Eve

If you’re looking for a fun and exciting way to ring in the New Year, head to the Sunshine Coast for free fireworks displays. The Council is hosting the Mooloolaba NYE event, and there will also be community-run programs at Caloundra and Coolum.

Mooloolaba NYE Event

The Mooloolaba event will kick off at 5pm and offer a range of entertainment for all ages. The family zone on Mooloolaba Esplanade will feature live music, children’s entertainment, face painters, and food and market stalls. There will even be a free bungy trampoline for kids under 18 on the beach. From 7pm, you can enjoy live DJs, and volunteers from the Red Frogs will be present in the youth zone. The event will be fully fenced and secure, with patrols to ensure everyone’s safety. Firework displays will light up the sky at 8.30pm and midnight.

Community-Run Programs

In addition to the Mooloolaba event, there will be community-organised celebrations at Coolum and Caloundra. Coolum Beach will have fireworks at 8.30pm, while Caloundra will kick off its festivities at 4pm with live music at the Kings Beach Amphitheatre, a free children’s film, and fireworks at 9.30pm.

Sunshine Coast NYE Fireworks Displays

  • Mooloolaba – 8.30pm and Midnight at Mooloolaba Esplanade
  • Coolum – 8.30pm at Coolum Beach near Tickle Park

Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson emphasized the focus on fun and safety for the Mooloolaba New Year’s Eve event. He stated, “We understand that families and teens want different entertainment and different music, so we will have two areas spread at either end of Mooloolaba Esplanade, one for families and one for youth.”

To ensure a safe and enjoyable event, the Mooloolaba celebration will be a fully gated area with strict regulations. The event will be drug, alcohol, and glass-free, and security will conduct bag checks at all entry points. Intoxicated individuals will not be allowed into the event zone. The presence of Red Frogs in the youth area will help maintain a positive atmosphere.

Various transportation options are available to reduce traffic and parking issues. A free ‘ThinkChange’ Bike Valet service is provided for bicycles, e-bikes, and e-scooters. A Park N Ride Kinetic shuttle bus service is also available, running between Chancellor State College and Alexandra Headland carpark. Public parking is available at USC – CP15 carpark on Claymore Road. Neuron e-bikes or e-scooters can also be used to travel to the event, and public transport options can be found on the TransLink Journey Planner.

Food and market stalls will be set up on Mooloolaba Esplanade and Beach Terrace for attendees to enjoy. Special event parking is available at PARKnGO Mooloolaba Central at a capped rate of $12.50.
