A Fitting Way to Mark Our National Day
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald believes that community-run activities are the perfect way to commemorate Australia Day. He encourages all residents to participate in the festivities happening across the Region.
“Regardless of where you choose to celebrate our national day, remember that we are fortunate to live in this special part of Australia,” Mayor McDonald said. “Australia Day is an occasion to reflect on and celebrate the best aspects of our country.”
The Toowoomba Regional Council Australia Day coordinating committee, along with various Council staff and community volunteers, has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to organize these civic activities. Councilor James O’Shea, the chair of the committee, encourages residents to proudly display the Australian flag and join in the festivities.
“There is no better way to celebrate Australia Day than with fellow Australians,” Cr O’Shea said. “This day is an opportunity to celebrate the diverse attributes and values that make up our national character.”
Awards and Citizenship Ceremonies
On January 26, Mayor McDonald will present the Toowoomba service area Australia Day awards and the W.H. Groom scholarship award at Picnic Point from 9:30 am. Additionally, a special ceremony will be held on January 25, where 100 residents will receive their Australian citizenship certificates. This allows our new citizens to fully participate in the Australia Day celebrations as proud Australians.
