Beating The Odds: Tony Thomas tips $7 best bet at Caulfield

The highly talented The Summit looks over the odds at Caulfield on Saturday.

RACE 1

TOKENIST looks very well suited here after the claim and maps to get the gun run from the good draw. Thought he was pretty brave battling on behind a dominant winner at The Valley last start. Will position on the speed and the $8.50 looks attractive. He can start shorter than that on race day. BLAZERRO has a big weight and a horror draw but if he gets any luck in running, looks a big chance. ASPEN COLORADO will also run well.

SUGGESTED BET: Tokenist each-way at $8.50.

TIPS: Tokenist 1, Blazerro 2, Aspen Colorado 3, Boh Rhap 4.

RACE 2

CHORLTON LANE looks a progressive type who could easily graduate to better races this spring. Loved the way he accelerated when in the open to score a strong win at Rosehill last start. Only goes up half a kilo on the limit weight here, so not badly treated. Draws perfectly to stalk the lead and I’m happy to take the $4 now as he will get shorter come post time. RHEINBERG is a talent and likely leader from inside draw. He’s been kept fresh and he races best that way.

SUGGESTED BET: Chorlton Lane to win at $4.

TIPS: Chorlton Lane 1, Rheinberg 2, Presser 3, Netanyahu 4.

RACE 3

More than happy to be with the very honest BEOUR BAY. She sat on speed this t/d last start and toughed it out well in the straight for a strong win. She only goes up a half-kilo after the claim and from the inside draw, can either lead or take a sit. The current $6.50 looks generous. NUNTHORPE is a G3 placegetter and she was good when resuming. Reckon she will cross from out wide to be on speed and looks the danger.

SUGGESTED BET: Beour Bay to win at $6.50

TIPS: Beour Bay 1, Nunthorpe 2, Belle Et Riche 3, Extreme Step 4.

RACE 4

THE NEPHEW has yet to place in three tries at this trip but he should have done at Flemington two runs back and he did score as he liked at Morphettville over 2250m last start. Does look like he wants this trip and good pace on here will help his big finish. He is great value at $10. DILLIAN was disappointing as an odds on favourite last start but he has since jumped out well and has talent. Plenty of other chances.

SUGGESTED BET: The Nephew each-way at $10.

TIPS: The Nephew 1, Dillian 2, Garachico 3, Pitchanun 4.

RACE 5

LITTLE BROSE was pretty good first-up when they really sprinted home last 400m. He held his ground well and will be way better for the hitout. He is the Blue Diamond winner this course and distance and gets the winkers back on. Don’t think the $7 will hang around too long. Got some time for BARBER, who has been given some soft trials in Sydney and he will be hard to run down.

SUGGESTED BET: Little Brose to win at $7.

TIPS: Little Brose 1, Barber 2, Legacies 3, Veight 4.

RACE 6

Really keen on THE SUMMIT. Think he is well above average and better races are in store for him. He was the run of the day at the Valley last month when he was the only horse to come off speed and win on a leader-dominated track. And he beat home subsequent winner Jimmy The Bear to frank the form. He’s been kept fresh since, well weighted in this harder grade and draws perfectly to get the run of the race. $7 is great value. JIMMY THE BEAR was excellent here last start and looks the logical threat.

SUGGESTED BET: The Summit to win at $7.

TIPS: The Summit 1, Jimmy The Bear 2, Uncle Bryn 3, Emissary 4.

RACE 7

Hard to go past BENEDETTA, who was so good when resuming at Flemington and looked to have a little bit up her sleeve as well. Extra 100m is ideal, she has been kept fresh and there looks good speed on here to allow her to settle midfield and then unwind late. She is probably at her right price around $2.60. PARISAL does look the danger. Impressive at Randwick when resuming and unbeaten in three tries on good tracks.

SUGGESTED BET: Benedettta to win at $2.60.

TIPS: Benedetta 1, Parisal 2, C’est Magique 3, Wrote To Arataki 4.

RACE 8

On paper, there appears abundant speed and that may suit GENERATION. He does go very well fresh, yet to miss a place in six tries at this track and draws the inside marble to get the gun run behind the speed. He was only just beaten first-up in this race last year. Good value at $7.50. ASFOORA is resuming but has drawn to park on speed and she was never out of second gear winning a recent trial.

SUGGESTED BET: Generation to win at $7.50.

TIPS: Generation 1, Asfoora 2, Kallos 3, Magic Time 4.

RACE 9

MR BRIGHTSIDE draws the extreme outside marble, which could be detrimental. I WISH I WIN draws the rails, which could be detrimental too. I think the lesser of two evils leans to Mr Brightside, who does have Alligator Blood drawn inside him and can bring him across from out wide. He was outstanding when resuming here two weeks back, unbeaten this t/d and that edge in fitness could be the advantage. I Wish I Win is a superstar but he will likely get back in the field and need a lot of luck to get out into clear galloping room. Great race.

SUGGESTED BET: Mr Brightside to win at $3.40.

TIPS: Mr Brightside 1, I Wish I Win 2, Alligator Blood 3, Aegon 4.

RACE 10

DEVOTED resumed from a break here two weeks back and was brave behind the handy Amenable carrying 58kg. Rises in class but drops to 50.5kg after the claim and draws to get the perfect run. Does look hard to beat but $3 is pretty short. Going to have a small each-way play on LET’SROLLTHEDICE. He has jumped out well and looks tuned up for a big first-up bid.

SUGGESTED BET: Small each-way on Let’srollthedice at $14.

TIPS: Devoted 1, Let’srollthedice 2, Buffalo River 3, Kalino 4.

BEST BET: The Summit (race 6)

BEST VALUE: Little Brose (race 5)
