Appliance of science breeds healthy conference pipeline for Brisbane – CMW

Brisbane, Australia, is set to host a catalogue of key global health and science conferences over the remaining months of 2024, as part of a packed business events calendar for the Queensland capital.

The high-profile conferences are projected to inject more than AUD$94m into the city’s economy and attract thousands of delegates to Brisbane from across Australia and the globe.

The city’s convention bureau, Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA), has secured events such as the Health Services Research Conference and the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) 2024 National Conference.

BEDA has also supported its partner, the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, to secure events including the World Down Syndrome Congress, the Health Informatics Conference, the Society for the Neurobiology of Language Annual Meeting, and the Convention of Zonta International to Down Syndrome, Health Informatics and Neurobiology.

The lucrative calendar also includes events across industries such as technology, energy, education, and transport.

“Brisbane’s reputation as a leading location to host events is continuing to grow across the globe,” says Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner.

“Last year we saw the return of international conferences across industries such as science, health, technology, transport, and agriculture, along with strong expressions of interest from new events to secure Brisbane as a conference destination.”

The mayor adds that Brisbane is refining its hotel, venue and lifestyle offering, as well as offering opportunities at Howard Smith Wharves and the launch of Brisbane Metro this year.

“We are also supporting our conference and incentives markets through new and expanded aviation routes to Brisbane from key markets, including China and North America,” the mayor added.

BEDA CEO Anthony Ryan said: “As one of the largest hospital and healthcare clusters in the southern hemisphere, and home to more than 100 health and biotech facilities, Brisbane’s world-leading health and life sciences industry and expertise is driving interest from global events in this sector.”
