Cancellation of Nightcliff Christmas Events

Christmas Events at Nightcliff Foreshore Cancelled Due to Wet Weather

The City of Darwin regrets to inform the public that the Christmas events scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 16 December 2023, at Nightcliff Foreshore have been cancelled due to the unpredictable wet weather. Unfortunately, this means that the Santa Fun on Wheels and Carols by the Sea events will not be taking place.

City of Darwin Acting CEO, Alice Percy, expressed her apologies to the local community for the cancellation. She explained, “Christmas falls in the middle of the wet season, and while the rain is great for our gardens, it is very unpredictable for outdoor events. In the interest of public safety and comfort, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel the events at Nightcliff tomorrow.”

Alternative Christmas Activities

Although the events at Nightcliff Foreshore are cancelled, Santa’s Village will still be open in the Galleria, off the Smith Street Mall. Families can enjoy free photos with Santa Claus and participate in a range of additional free activities across the city during the school holidays.

The City of Darwin has also released the 2024 School Holiday Event Program, which can be accessed here. This program outlines various exciting activities for families to enjoy during the school break.

City of Darwin Acting CEO, Alice Percy, concluded by saying, “Thank you for your understanding and we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.” Despite the cancellation of the events at Nightcliff Foreshore, the City of Darwin remains committed to providing enjoyable experiences for the community.
